i3-Technologies’ displays are meant to be touched. Now, more than ever, it’s essential to adopt proper hygienic practices to make sure your display is cleaned correctly.

Which product to use

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using an alcohol solution consisting of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water as a disinfectant. This is also known as rubbing alcohol.

How to wipe off, wipe out

Please follow these steps to clean and disinfect the external surface of your devices:

  1. Wear disposable latex gloves or nitrile gloves if you are latex-sensitive.
  2. Turn off the device and disconnect the power cable. Remove the batteries from items like remotes. Never clean a product while it is powered on or plugged in.
  3. Moisten a microfiber cloth with a mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water. Do not use fibrous materials, like paper towels or toilet paper. The cloth should be moist but not dripping wet.
  4. Gently wipe the moistened cloth on the surfaces to be cleaned in
  5. circular movements. Do not allow any moisture to drip into areas like USB ports and other openings, as moisture entering the inside of an electronic product can cause extensive damage to the product.
  6. Start with the display, move to the back of the device, and end with the cables.
  7. Ensure surfaces have been completely air-dried before turning the device on after cleaning. No moisture should be visible on the surfaces of the product before it is powered on.
  8. Gloves should be discarded after each cleaning. Clean hands immediately after gloves are removed.

Instructions for safe handling

It is important to handle isopropyl alcohol in a safe manner at all times.

  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.
  • Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.
  • Use with adequate ventilation.
  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep the container tightly closed.
  • In the event of contact with isopropyl alcohol, wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

Display

The glass plate of the i3Touch display is made from AG (Anti-Glare) glass. Some corrosive materials may cause damage to AG glass. For cleaning, the AG glass can be wiped with a dust-free cloth. If there are stains, use a small amount of glass cleaner and wipe with a cloth to remove them. Don’t spray the glass cleaner directly onto the glass.

When using a disinfecting glass cleaner, please ensure that this disinfecting glass cleaning product is safe to use on AG glass to avoid warranty issues. When in doubt, please contact the supplier or manufacturer of the glass cleaning product for confirmation.

What NOT to use

Many common household cleaners and disinfectants can damage electronic products. Do not use any of the following chemicals or any solutions that contain them, including spray-based surface cleaners. These chemicals will irreversibly damage the coatings on the glass. (tested in high-concentration 80%)

  • CHLORINE and CHLORINE COMPOUNDS
  • FORMALDEHYDE
  • HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
  • PERACETIC ACID
  • CITRIC ACID

Not recommended

These chemicals will not irreversibly damage the coatings on the glass but will induce a massive amount of smudges and marks which are difficult to be cleaned (when applied in high concentrations).

  • GLUTARALDEHYDE
  • IODOPHORS
  • ORTHO-PHTHALADEHYD

How to understand this list?

How to understand this list? If you already have a professional display cleaning product that contains one of these chemicals, go ahead and use it till empty. But look for another display cleaning product without these chemicals.

These chemicals are “not recommended, based on high-concentration testing (80%)”

Safe to use

These chemicals will not irreversibly damage the coatings on the glass but will induce a large number of smudges and marks which are difficult to be cleaned (when applied in high concentrations).

  • ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL
  • ETHYL ALCOHOL

These chemicals can safely be used

These chemicals can safely be used for their excellent bacterial disinfecting properties and even viral disinfecting in high concentrations (>70%).

But note that these chemicals are not well-suited glass-cleaning chemicals. They will not clean up fingerprints on the glass and will likely leave behind stripes and smudges.

For COVID-19, first, disinfect with a high-concentration pure alcohol solution (>70%), then clean the display with a dedicated display cleaning product.

How often should a device be cleaned?

i3-Technologies recommends cleaning your devices a maximum of 3-5 times per day.

Excessive cleaning of your device with any cleaning solution can lead to potential wear on components.

Note: Customers may experience some visible changes to cosmetic finishes over time as a result of the cleaning techniques mentioned in this document.

Other measures

Of course, not only the screen itself should be hygienic. The cleaner the hands that touch the device, the fewer diseases can spread. Invite users to wash their hands before using the screen and provide a disinfectant gel in its vicinity.

Stay safe, stay healthy!
